New York – April 23 – Gregg Marx, a popular L.A. based crooner, Emmy Winner, voice-over artist and former soap star will make his first New York City cabaret appearance since 2005 on May 21 and 22 at The Metropolitan Room. His Cole Porter show, Music & Lyrics by COLE PORTER, brings with it a uniquely personal edge. A little known piece of show business history connects Gregg Marx, the famous Marx Brothers, Salvador Dali and Cole Porter; and it’s a lot closer than the popular parlor game of six degrees of separation.
“Marx articulates lyrics and communicates emotions with sharp precision in a lush, honey-tinged voice whose beauty can break your heart…” Elliot Zwiebach
Gregg, the grandson of Gummo Marx, one of the legendary five Marx Brothers, discovered that Salvador Dali was an avid Marx Brothers fan in the 1930’s. Dali was so inspired by his idols that he was developing a film project for them with music by none other than his friend, Cole Porter. Dali wrote the treatment and was going to direct it and design the sets. Not surprisingly, the concept was deemed too “surreal” by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and “not funny” by Groucho! Though the project never came to fruition, it inspired Gregg Marx to return to the songs of the inimitable Mr. Porter in this critically lauded show, directed by the multi-talented Kirby Tepper and performed recently at Catalina Jazz in Los Angeles among other venues.
Marx received an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor as “Tom Hughes” on the CBS daytime drama, As the World Turns. He also starred for three years as “David Banning” on NBC’s Days of Our Lives. His substantial TV resume includes starring in the NBC mini-series The Secrets of Lake Success and numerous Guest Star roles on episodic television.
Gregg is a highly regarded voice over actor with hundreds of radio and television commercials to his credit; he has been the voice of Ross Department stores for ten years. He was the announcer for the Dr. Phil Show for three years and can be heard on many film trailers. As a singer, Gregg has also appeared at Feinstein’s at the Cinegrill in Los Angeles and Danny’s Skylight Room in New York, as well as Los Angeles’ Gardenia. He is a much in-demand guest artist at many social and corporate events.
